Inclusive Play

Inclusion Matters

Great Western Recreation believes that every community is unique, just like the kids who make it special! We believe that playgrounds should reflect this diversity. Play is not just fun; it’s important for kids’ growth, health, and happiness. And guess what? The benefits of play aren’t just for kids – they’re for everyone, no matter their age or ability.

Sadly, some kids, especially those with disabilities, don’t always get the chance to play as much as they should. That’s why we’re all about creating play spaces and programs that welcome everyone with open arms. Let’s make sure every child, no matter their abilities, can join in on the fun!

Now, more than ever, communities worldwide are coming together to find cool new ways to bring kids, families, and neighbors closer through playtime. When we understand the value of play that includes everyone, young and old, we can all work together to create spaces that cater to everyone’s needs. It’s a win-win for our communities, resulting in positive vibes all around!

National Partnership for Inclusion

Grounded in Research

Great Western Recreation is thrilled about Playcore’s partnership up with Dr. Keith Christensen and the amazing folks at Utah State University’s Center for Persons with Disabilities (CPD). Together, we’ve crafted a top-notch design program that’s all about creating play spaces that celebrate everyone’s abilities and promote inclusion for people of all ages and abilities.

Let’s talk about the 7 Principles of Inclusive Playground Design® – they’re like the superheroes of creating awesome play environments. Based on the original 7 Principles of Inclusive Design from NC State University’s Center for Universal Design, ( guidelines are the only evidence-based guidelines for tailoring outdoor play experiences specifically for kids.

The CPD at Utah State University is not your average team; they’re a dynamic crew with one mission – making life better for people with disabilities through research, education, services, and technical assistance. They’re all about expanding our understanding of disability, from its causes to diagnosis and the best ways to make daily life more accommodating. With over 40 years of groundbreaking work, they’ve earned their respect as one of the leading authorities in the field of disability research.

Playcore‘s partnership with Utah State University’s Center for Persons with Disabilities is like the dream team for Great Western Recreation! Their commitment to inclusion isn’t just a checkbox; it’s woven into our mission and values. We’re firm believers that everyone deserves a spot on the playground, and it’s our mission to make sure that happens.

We’re not about guesswork – we’re all about staying in the loop with the latest research and learning. Our goal? To give communities like yours the best, most accurate, and downright meaningful practices for inclusive play. Great Western Recreation is not just inviting you to the party; we’re handing you a VIP pass to join our passion for creating spaces where everyone, regardless of ability, can play, learn, and grow.

Let’s team up to build a place that’s not just for some, but for all. Together, we can nurture the whole child, transform the environment, and, in the end, build a community that’s wholeheartedly awesome!
